Terra Canis is the first pet food in pet shops which is 100% produced using ingredients in genuine human grade quality (HGQ) which means Terra Canis has set completely new quality standards in the animal food industry. Terra Canis is also a pioneer in the field of grain-free or grain-reduced nutrition, as nature intended.
What does human grade quality (HGQ) mean? All the raw materials used by Terra Canis are of human grade quality at the time of processing. That means that the raw materials are approved for the food industry and are just as suitable for producing food products for human consumption. Our manufacturer is a third-generation, long-established, traditional butcher in Munich, a genuine food processing company.
This is to be distinguished from so-called category 3 material. This material (offal, slaughter by-products, old meat etc.) is processed into pet food by the animal food industry at animal food plants and is classified as waste material, for example because it lacks freshness, hygiene or its bacterial count is too high and is no longer approved for human consumption. A more detailed description of the terms ‘human grade quality’ and ‘category 3 material’ as well as some legal background information can be found under ‘Information’.
However this quality has nothing to do with the quality of food which nature provides for wolves in the wild through their natural prey. This is why we have decided on a different path to that in the industry and produce on the basis of real food to 100% in a pure food processing company.
Quality has its price: raw materials in genuine human grade quality cost much more than category 3 material. Most manufactures produce on a category 3 basis, so they can work with much cheaper raw materials than Terra Canis.
But in return, Terra Canis provides you with no-compromise quality in 100% FG quality, with a composition as intended by nature and which has nothing to do with category 3 material, substandard by-products, lots of grain, chemicals and artificial materials.
Terra Canis processes only raw materials in human grade quality.
All products are purely natural products. No artificial additives are used.
All products are developed with and recommended by vets.
We abstain from using grain or only use the slightest amount of pseudograin.

Domestic dogs are descendants of wolves. This means they are carnivores and omnivores (carni-omnivores). An optimum diet means imitating the natural food spectrum of the wolf and dog as much as possible in relation to the best possible quality of food components as well as a composition which is appropriate for the species.
A diet for a dog which is appropriate to its species must include the many nutritional elements defined by nature and evolution. For example a balanced ratio of meat to fruit and vegetables, a purely natural supply of nutrients, a diet which is grain-free or low in grain.
A dog’s needs change during its lifetime. Long periods of rest, less stress and a light diet are some points that are important, for example for an older dog. For this reason, the individual requirements of puppies and senior dogs should be taken into account when feeding.
What exactly do the terms ‘human grade quality’ and ‘category 3 material’ mean? What is the difference between a food processing company and an animal food company? What is so special about the quality of Terra Canis compared to almost all other products? You’ll find answers to these questions here.
Dogs should be eating different amounts of food depending on their different stages in life or their individual situations. There is no general recommendation which is applicable to all dogs in the same way. For example each dog has its individual level of metabolism.
