AliVet LOW FAT

The energy content of all our LOW FAT menus is reduced altogether because they contain less meat and therefore less fat, and the amount of low-calorie fruits and vegetables is increased. This particular combination also increases the amount of raw dietary fibre in the food, which is considered to have a positive effect on triglyceride levels in the blood. Pineapple contains enzymes that are well known for boosting the body’s fat metabolism and helping it burn fat. The high-quality, food-grade muscle meat supplies the organism with valuable proteins that counteract any undesired loss in muscle mass during the diet. In addition, lupine proteins and chia seeds provide high amounts of essential amino acids, especially lysine. These menus are grain-free, because grain is rich in calories and not easily digestible. The added artichoke leaves are said to boost the body's metabolism, which in turn helps effectively reduce fat deposits. Yarrow contains bitter compounds that stimulate the production of bile. The L-carnitine contained in these menus improves the conversion of fatty acids. While simply reducing a dog's normal amount of food can often lead to signs of deficiency, Alimentum Veterinarium LOW FAT contains a healthy balance of vitamins, minerals, and trace elements to fully meet the animal’s nutritional requirements.

The medical term “adiposity” (obesity) comes from the Latin word “adeps” (= fat). It is used to describe the condition of a patient whose ideal weight is exceeded by over twenty percent. In obese dogs, the ribs are no longer clearly palpable and the flank no longer retracts in the typical manner. In industrialised countries, almost 40% of all dogs are heavily overweight, which is why obesity is now the no. 1 most common disease treated in small animal vet practices in Germany, and has been for quite some time. Permanent overweight has damaging effects on the animal’s entire musculoskeletal system. Furthermore, it increases the risk of high blood pressure, metabolic disorders, as well as heart and organ diseases. Obesity can ultimately lead to osteoarthritis, inflammation of the joints, and damage to the tendons and ligaments. Obesity is caused by constantly serving the dog too much food while not giving it enough physical exercise. Non-species-appropriate food that contains too much grain, starch, and sugar also causes excess weight. In addition to treating any concomitant diseases that may arise, obesity is treated – first and foremost – by mindfully changing the dog's diet and simultaneously making sure the animal gets 2–3 hours of exercise per day over a long period of time.
