Appropriate reforestation for sustainable forests

Wood is one of nature's precious resources. Intensive use of this raw material means that trees often don’t get the chance to grow really old anymore, because they get chopped down when they’re still young. What is more, forests don’t usually grow naturally anymore – they are planned, planted and constructed. This, too, has a negative effect on the quality of forests and of wood. Heavy machinery is used to clear the forests, which press the ground and, in doing so, alter it: the amount of oxygen it can absorb is decreased, and it is limited in how it can be used. Forests are a part of nature that needs to be protected, however, because they are an important habitat for many plants and animals. Furthermore, trees are important for our climate as they naturally produce oxygen. And trees have a positive effect on us, too: they can regulate our blood pressure, calm us down, and sharpen our senses. When you buy the Terra Canis Tree Lover Menu, 10 cents from the price of every can go to the organisation “FAIRVENTURES WORLDWIDE”..

The “Fairventures worldwide” project

Fairventures develops and carries out large-scale reforestation projects in the tropics. Intelligent agroforestry systems and modern technologies are combined to create sustainable forests where the local community can live well, and actors from global value creation chains can contribute to reforestation, improved biodiversity and the protection of the climate. The entire approach is oriented towards demand: in cooperation with the private sector, reforestation projects are planned in such a way that financially attractive raw materials are produced. Partnerships are formed with the communities on the ground in order to develop and test adequate, local solutions. These solutions range from reforestation with species of trees that grow quickly, to sustainable wood production and other forestry products, to integrated agroforestry. This creates new ways for the people on the ground to earn an income. Fairventures projects and products offer added value along the entire value creation chain, while at the same time working to combat climate change.

Tree Lover:

Game with chestnut, blackberry and forest herbs

Forests are not only a part of the environment that needs to be protected: they also have a lot to offer from a culinary perspective. Some of the healthiest and best ingredients that forests have to offer have been selected for our Tree Lover menu. Aromatic game meat from free-range animals provides a healthy, very easily digestible source of protein which is suitable even for sensitive dogs. Protein-rich chestnuts and alkaline potatoes make sure your dog gets plenty of energy. The best known tree fruits, apples and pears, come together with blackberries and forest herbs (birch leaves, mugwort, nettles, thyme) to provide many healthy vitamins, minerals and trace elements, as well as secondary phytochemicals. The natural additions of seaweed, brewer’s yeast, rosehip, eggshell, mineral clay and linseed oil make this a real feast for your dog.
