Give the gift of light to people in Africa
Sustainable solar products can be a real alternative, because – especially in poor countries with an abundance of sunshine – they provide badly needed electricity. To bring light into the darkness in Africa, Scandinavian artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen have developed the “Little Sun” solar lamp. Terra Canis supports this project by donating 10% of the price of each can of Sun Lover it sells to the Little Sun Foundation. The Sun Lover menu will bring a bit of sunshine into your dog’s bowl too: juicy beef is accompanied by energy-rich sweet potato, sun-ripened fruit (mango, melon, kiwi and peach) and many other sunshine-filled ingredients. And, of course, it’s 100% human-grade quality of all ingredients.
The Little Sun Project
In addition to food, water and a secure roof over your head, reliable sources of light and power are some of the most important basic necessities for living. In refugee camps, schools and family homes, solar lamps provide a safe light source, and are also a healthy alternative to petroleum lamps. To bring light into the darkness in Africa, Scandinavian artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen started developing the “Little Sun” solar lamp five years ago. It’s a little sun made of plastic, with a solar cell on the reverse. To charge the lamps, they can be hung on a lanyard around the neck during the day, and then at night they provide 4-10 hours of light (depending on brightness). In this way, Little Sun brings solar light to the people who need it most. In Sub-Saharan Africa, the project builds up local sales systems and trains small business owners who can earn a livelihood by selling the small lamps. Little Sun also brings solar lamps and chargers to people in crisis regions, refugee camps and to schools in areas which have no electricity. There, the little lamps not only support schoolchildren’s educational opportunities by allowing them to read for longer; they also create the foundations for a sustainable future.
Beef with coconut, sun-ripened fruit and turmeric
With its extremely healthy recipe, the Sun Lover menu provides your dog with everything he needs on a daily basis. Juicy beef is accompanied by energy-rich sweet potato and sun-ripened fruit (mango, melon, kiwi and peach). Coconut flour ensures he’ll have healthy gut bacteria, and is a great source of fibre. The sun-loving herbs lavender, thyme and marjoram provide many natural micro-nutrients. An extra kick of energy is provided by ground sunflower seeds and linseed oil, which also contains healthy essential fatty acids. With its high levels of chlorophyll, or “green sunshine”, the superfood spirulina also brings many more very healthy micro-nutrients and antioxidants into your dog’s bowl.
