Low Protein Diet

The Alimentum Veterinarium "Low Protein Diet" line from Terra Canis has been specially developed for dogs with chronic renal insufficiency. The menus contain a lower protein content and an adjusted fat content in order to provide sufficient energy from non-protein sources such as rapeseed oil. These are supplemented with herbs for traditional treatments such as nettle, dandelion and marigold.

Low Protein FAQs

The "Low Protein Diet" menus have been specially developed for dogs with impaired kidney function, e.g. in the context of chronic renal insufficiency. They are easier on the kidneys thanks to their lower protein and phosphorus content, adapted fats and increased fibre, while ensuring at the same time that the dog has an optimal supply of nutrients.
The menus contain lower protein content and increased fat content to ensure the supply of energy. At the same time, they are low in phosphate and therefore help to slow down the progression of kidney disease.
Herbs such as marigold, parsley, nettle and dandelion are known to have a supportive effect on kidney function.
The reduced protein content minimises the strain on the kidneys, while the adjusted fat content together with easily digestible carbohydrates ensures calorie intake. This avoids overloading the kidneys and protects the metabolism while still providing the dog with the energy and nutrients it needs.
Strain on the kidneys is relieved by the targeted reduction of substances that are harmful to the kidneys and the supplementary herbs and superfoods. This helps to maintain the remaining kidney function. The diet menus serve a therapeutic function and they should always be used in accordance with the vet’s guidance.
