Sustainable trays and shipping cartons
We're helping to protect the forest
Our new, climate neutral single-material packaging for the cans (can trays) and our new shipping boxes are all made from recycled paper. By using this carbon neutral packaging, Terra Canis is supporting rainforest protection projects in Brazil. The project in the Brazilian Amazon region compensates for emissions by avoiding the destruction of areas of virgin forest. The project area spans 148,000 hectares in the area of Portel in the north of the country. The regional forests are home to numerous species of trees which produce valuable wood. In order to prevent illegal logging, the project supports the so-called ribeirinhos, who live alongside the rivers and streams, in using sustainable agroforestry techniques. In return for doing their bit to protect nature, they are also given rights to use land.
Since 2012, the project has broadened its surveillance activities by training local village residents as patrol staff. The patrol teams approach house occupants and invite them to work for the project. They offer them the opportunity to have alternative sources of income by joining in with the activities of the social projects or with the patrol teams who monitor the project area.
It is to this end that our packaging producer collaborates with the organisation “ClimatePartner”, which provides climate neutral certification. ClimatePartner helps companies to calculate their CO2 emissions, to implement climate protection strategies and to offset their CO2 emissions by being involved in recognised climate protection projects. In this way, it is possible for products and companies to become climate neutral.
